Oxbit

One editor. Every screen.

Overview

Oxbit is a dev environment that runs anywhere: in the browser, on macOS and Linux, and on iPhone and iPad. On its own, a browser workspace keeps files, settings, layout, and drafts in IndexedDB. Connect the Node runtime, and the same editor reads and writes files on disk, runs terminals and tasks, drives Git, and hosts language servers.

Runtime

One command. Your whole project.

Run oxbit in any folder. It starts a runtime, opens the editor in your browser, and hands the shell back. Run it again in the same project, and it reuses that runtime.

  • Pairing, handled

The URL carries a one-time pairing code. The editor uses it once and clears it from the address bar.

  • Local by default

The first runtime listens on port 9277, bound to loopback. Later ones pick a free port.

  • Flags when you need them

Check it with --status, stop it with --stop, or skip the browser with --no-open.

  • Safe reconnects

After a dropped connection, Oxbit asks the runtime whether a command finished before it does anything else.

Editor

Your keys. Your themes. Your layout.

Split into up to three editor groups, edit with multiple cursors, and preview Markdown and HTML beside the code. Bring the shortcuts you already know from eight keymaps.

  • Split views

Up to three editor groups, side by side or stacked. Panels dock left, right, or bottom, or pop out into their own window.

  • Previews

Markdown in editor, preview, or split mode. HTML previews to the side. Images from 10 to 1600% zoom.

  • 26 themes

26 colour themes in 7 packs, from Graphite to 80s Neon. Two icon packs install on first launch.

  • Eight keymaps

Oxbit, VS Code, JetBrains, macOS, Sublime Text, Atom, Visual Studio, and Emacs.

  • Layered settings

JSON settings in five layers, from the defaults to a private settings.local.json.

  • Drafts that survive

Unsaved edits are stored 75 ms after each change, ready to restore.

Language services

Smarter about your code.

Oxbit manages 13 language servers, from TypeScript and Vue to Astro, PHP, and Laravel. Each one installs pinned and integrity-checked, and runs without npm or a shell.

  • The full toolkit

Completion, signature help, inlay hints, go to definition, references, rename, code actions, and formatting.

  • Six more, built in

Local support for Zsh, JSONL, INI, env files, CSV, and logs.

  • Schemas included

JSON files pick up SchemaStore schemas automatically, refreshed every 24 hours.

  • Quiet when idle

A server with nothing attached stops after 5 minutes.

Source Control

Git, start to finish.

Stage whole files or single hunks, commit with Cmd+Enter, and search history by message or path. When a merge conflicts, pick current, incoming, or both, then Save and Stage.

  • History

Filter by branch, message, or path. Revert or cherry-pick a commit.

  • Branches

Create, rename, merge, track remotes, and publish. Pull is fast-forward only.

  • Stashes

Include untracked files, then Apply or Pop with the index intact.

  • Mid-merge

A merge, rebase, cherry-pick, or revert in progress shows Continue and Abort.

Terminals and Tasks

Your scripts, already there.

Oxbit imports tasks from eight formats, including VS Code, JetBrains, npm and Composer, Procfile, and Make. Finding them runs nothing. Services get a free port and a readiness check.

  • Services

An automatic port, readiness by URL or output, and restarts on failure, up to 10 attempts.

  • Terminals that reconnect

A terminal survives a lost connection and replays up to 1 MiB of output.

  • Worktrees

Create Git worktrees from the Tasks panel, with init and teardown hooks.

  • Room to run

16 terminals and 16 task runs at once, with up to 32 services.

Collaboration

Share it. Take it back.

Share Workspace creates an invitation for exactly what you choose: files, editing, terminals, Git, and more. Revoke it, and its sessions close.

  • Eight capabilities

Read, write, and collaboration start checked. Terminal, tasks, Git, language services, and extensions are opt-in.

  • Edit together

Shared editing runs on Yjs, and only the runtime writes shared files to disk.

  • Follow along

Cursors in theme colours. Follow Participant shows what someone else sees.

  • Clean exits

Revoking a grant closes its sessions and ends its processes.

Desktop and SSH

Native on Mac and Linux.

The desktop app bundles Node, ripgrep, and the language services, so there’s nothing else to install. Connect over SSH, and the remote needs no Node, npm, root, or internet.

  • Built with Tauri

Apple silicon with macOS 26 or later, and x64 with Ubuntu 24.04 or later. Signed auto-updates.

  • Verified runtime

Over SSH, the runtime is SHA-256 verified and listens on the remote loopback only.

  • Ports forwarded

Task ports on the remote host forward automatically.

  • Safe to quit

Close and quit offer Save All, Discard, or Cancel across every window.

iPhone and iPad

A real editor in your pocket.

Edit the Oxbit folder in Files, or any folder you pick. Editing, search, formatting, and previews work with no runtime at all. Connect one, and terminals, Git, and tasks come along.

  • On device

Search, Prettier and TypeScript formatting, HTML and CSS previews, and draft restore.

  • Connect Runtime

Terminals, Git, tasks, and language servers from another computer. The token stays in Keychain.

  • A key bar

Escape, Tab, arrows, undo, redo, symbols, and a one-shot ⌘ above the keyboard.

  • iOS 26

For iPhone and iPad with iOS 26 or later.

Agent ACP

Bring your own agent.

Run Codex, Cursor, or Amp inside a trusted workspace over the Agent Client Protocol. Every write arrives as a diff to apply or reject. Agents are off by default.

  • Real permissions

The provider’s own choices, with no auto-approval. Only the runtime owner controls agents.

  • Review in editor

Open a held diff in the editor. Undo this edit is guarded.

  • Subagents

A live tree of every subagent, across seven lifecycle states.

  • History

The last 30 conversations, ready to read or resume.

Even more

All the little things.

Security

Tools stay off until you trust them.

Terminals, tasks, Git, language services, and runtime extensions start only after you choose Trust workspace tools for that runtime. Revoke trust, and those processes end.

Session tokens are stored only as a hash, in an HttpOnly, SameSite=Strict cookie. The WebSocket checks the exact origin, and writes land through SHA-256 revisions and an atomic rename.
