Little DillOverview
Little Dill is a virtual pet that lives in your browser. Drop a cucumber into Classic, Garlic, or Spicy brine. One real minute later, one of 6 varieties hatches, and you give it a name. The variety is chosen and saved once, so a reload won’t change it.
No build step. No account. The repo root is the app. Open index.html, or serve the folder from any static web server.
Daily care
Elapsed time comes from timestamps, so time keeps passing while the tab is closed.

A feed, a clean, a game, and a pet each day is all it takes. A healthy pickle survives a weekend away. Food, happiness, or hygiene has to sit empty for 48 hours before a pickle dies. And pickles don’t die of old age.
Growth
Babies have a round body and a pacifier. At 1 day, young pickles sprout a leaf. Teens arrive at 3 days and cycle through 8 stereotypes, one a day. Adults reach full shape at 7 days. Elders begin at 14 days and take one of 32 forms every 3 days after that, each with its own hat, accessory, name, and lines.

Entry costs 6 energy. Finish a game for 10 to 34 happiness.
- Heart hunt: follow the heart through 3 jar shuffles.
- Dill says: repeat a growing sequence of shapes and notes across 5 levels.
- Brine catch: catch hearts, dodge salt, and build a streak over 12 drops.
Sound
Brine Time is an original 132 BPM chiptune, synthesized on device with Web Audio. The 32-bar loop layers triangle bass, square-wave arpeggios and melody, a synthesized kick, and noise snare and hats. No audio files, network services, or libraries. The music softens while your pickle sleeps, and all audio pauses when the page is hidden.
Saves and reminders
Autosave writes to browser storage after every care action and every 3 seconds during play. Download save creates an encrypted .dill file with AES-256-GCM and a fresh IV for each export. Imports show the save’s age and stats before you confirm, and Undo import brings back your previous pickle during the same visit. The format key ships in the client, so encryption stops casual file edits and nothing more.
Push reminders are off by default. A Cloudflare Durable Object alarm sends at most one reminder every 24 hours when care is due, and stays quiet from 10pm to 9am in your device’s time zone. The server stores a push endpoint, a hash of the subscription secret, and the schedule. Pet names and stats stay on your device.
Little Dill installs as a progressive web app and opens offline through a service worker.
